Frequently Asked Questions

Literal Guides for Literal Thinkers aims to make difficult conversations easier. As you explore these guides, keep in mind our commitment to neutrality, respect for family values, and factual clarity, where appropriate.

What does “values neutral” mean?

When I say the book is values neutral, I mean it does not promote one specific moral, religious, political, or cultural framework over another.

I learned that some behaviors are labeled “inappropriate” not because they are unsafe, but because they conflict with someone else’s personal or family values. Those values can vary widely depending on region, religion, culture, or personal belief.

This guide reinforces two things:

  • Every family has different values.
  • Those values deserve respect.

The book presents factual information clearly and leaves space for families to insert their own beliefs and expectations. It explains what is generally considered socially acceptable in broader society, while encouraging families to define their own standards at home.

Is book 1 appropriate for all children?

The book is written with neurodivergent and literal thinkers ages 8-13 in mind, but it can be helpful for any child who benefits from direct, structured explanations. The age range is expandable at parents' discretion.

Content is designed to reduce confusion and remove ambiguity. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to review material in advance and introduce topics in a way that aligns with their child’s maturity level and family values.

How explicit is the content?

The content is factual and direct, but not graphic.

The book focuses on clear explanations using straightforward language, without unnecessary detail or imagery. The goal is to inform, not overwhelm.

There are simplified, labeled anatomy diagrams included in the anatomy section. These cover the male reproductive system, the female reproductive system (both internal and external), and breasts. The diagrams are educational in nature and designed to support understanding, not to be sensational or detailed beyond what is developmentally appropriate. These diagrams are the only visuals that may be considered graphic.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to review the material first and decide how to introduce it in a way that aligns with their child’s maturity level and family values.

How does it differ from other puberty or life skills books?

Our book is scaffolded, modular, and designed for literal thinkers, with a focus on social emotional skills and visual metaphors.

What is "Forward With Facts" and why is it mentioned?

Forward With Facts is the original business entity under which Literal Guides for Literal Thinkers was developed. Prior to launch, the owner felt Literal Guides for Literal Thinkers better fit the focus of the content provided, both focus specifically on structured life skill resources.

Both names represent the same commitment to clear, factual, and practical guidance.

Why does structure matter for literal thinkers?

Structure provides clarity and builds confidence, essential for literal thinkers to understand complex topics without anxiety.

Does this guide replace professional advice?

While informative, our guide is not a replacement for professional medical or psychological advice. Always consult a professional for specific concerns.

How do I use the guide with my child?

Use this guide as a conversation starter, adapting it to fit your family's values and your child's comfort level and understanding.

When will the first book be released?
